Fire Restriction Levels

Fire Advisory

Indicates that the fire hazard rating has increased, and this is a warning that restrictions or a total fire ban may come into effect if conditions do not improve.

A Fire Advisory occurs when the fire hazard in the area is moderate to high. Wildfires can start from most accidental causes and spread moderately through dry brush and grass Fire Crews should be able to contain wildfire with minimal support. Wildfires that are not supressed immediately can still become very serious fires. Outdoor burning is permitted with a fire permit or in fire pits or approved burning appliances.

Fire Restriction

Means no new Fire Permits or Fireworks Permits are authorized and currently issued Fire Permits or Fireworks Permits are suspended. Exemptions are internal household fireplaces, incinerators (farm or acreage use only), regulated burning barrels, camp stoves, solid fueled barbeques (charcoal briquettes), liquid fueled barbeques (propane & natural gas), recreational fire in an approved fire pit with grate covering, chimney’s, pellet grills, smokers, and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas.

A Fire Restriction occurs when the fire hazard in the area is high to very high. Wildfires can start easily from most causes, especially unattended campfires, and spread quickly through dry brush and grass. Wildfires may become serious and difficult to control if not successfully contained while small. Outdoor burning is only permitted in approved fire pits or approved burning appliances.

Fire Ban

Means an order issued by the Minister responsible for the Forest and Prairie Protection Act, or an order issued pursuant to this Bylaw, for the purpose of canceling all Fire Permits or Fireworks Permits, prohibiting the lighting of, and requiring the extinguishment of all fires within the County. Exemptions are internal household fireplaces, camp stoves, solid fueled barbeques (charcoal briquettes), liquid fueled barbeques (propane & natural gas), pellet grills, and smokers.

A Total Fire Ban occurs when the fire hazard in the area is very high to extreme. Large erratic-behaving wildfire can start quickly and spread extremely fast through dry brush and grass. This type of fire can escalate with any type of wind. NO OUTDOOR burning is to take place during a fire ban which includes wood burning fire pits, external solid fuel cooking appliances such as charcoal or pellet stoves. The discharge of any explosive devices are also not permitted. Internal solid fuel appliances used for cooking or heating using liquid natural gas or propane will be permitted. The use of open flames appliances in the industrial or agricultural facilities or during ceremonial rituals or celebrations may be permitted.
